How to Save at Photobox
Photobox turns your own photographs into printed keepsakes: photo books, canvas and framed wall art, standard prints, mugs, jigsaws, cushions, magnets, cards, calendars and wedding stationery. It has been printing from London since 2000 and is now part of the Storio group.
Everything here is made to order, which changes how you save compared with an ordinary retailer. There is no clearance stock, sizes do not sell out, and the discount is essentially always a promotional code rather than a marked-down shelf price. That makes three things matter: which code you use, when you order, and how well you have prepared the images.
Only one code applies, so choose deliberately. Photobox is explicit that codes cannot be combined with each other, with other promotions, or with gift cards. Where a code has been applied automatically at checkout, swapping it for a better one means deleting the applied code and typing the replacement in โ it will not overwrite on its own. Decide which is worth more on your specific basket before you reach that screen.
Check the product scope, not just the percentage. Codes here are frequently scoped to a product group โ photo books, wall art and gifts, for example โ rather than running across the whole catalogue. A larger percentage that excludes the item you actually want is worth less than a smaller one that covers it.
Mind the minimum basket. Most codes carry a spend threshold. If you are close to it, adding a low-cost item such as a pack of prints is often cheaper than missing the discount entirely โ but only if that item is within the code's scope.
Delivery is charged separately and is not flat. Delivery and handling costs vary by product, and a mixed order can attract more than one charge. Bulky wall art in particular is often handled differently from flat printed goods, so read the checkout figure rather than budgeting from a previous order.
Build the project first, apply the code last. A photo book can take an evening or a fortnight; Photobox saves projects, and a code applied at checkout works the same either way. There is no advantage to rushing a layout to catch a code that has weeks left on it โ and no way to claim a code retrospectively once the order is placed.

What Photobox Sells
Photo Books
The flagship product, and the one where the price spread is widest. Softcover volumes sit at the accessible end; hardback and layflat books โ where the spread opens completely without a gutter running through the middle of a panoramic image โ cost more and are the format worth paying up for if you are printing landscapes or group shots across a double page. Page count is the main driver of price after format, and adding pages later costs less than starting a second volume.
Wall Art and Canvas Prints
Canvas, framed prints, mounted prints, acrylic and aluminium. This is the category most sensitive to image resolution, because the enlargement factor is highest. It is also the one where finish choice changes the result most: a gloss acrylic and a matt canvas made from the same file look like different photographs. Photobox publishes a finish comparison, which is worth reading before committing to a large piece.
Photo Prints
Standard sizes in packs, and the cheapest thing in the catalogue. Prints are the usual way to top a basket up to a code's minimum spend, and they are a low-risk way to test how a set of images actually reproduces before ordering the same files at canvas size.
Personalised Gifts
Mugs, jigsaws, photo blocks, magnets and cushions. These are the impulse end of the range and the ones most likely to be bought in multiples for several recipients, which is where a percentage code across a larger basket pays. Proof the crop carefully โ a face near the edge of a mug wrap or a jigsaw cut line is the most common avoidable disappointment.
Cards, Calendars and Stationery
Greeting cards, invitations and wall or desk calendars, plus a wedding stationery line covering save-the-dates, invitations and thank-you cards. Calendars are strongly seasonal and are typically ordered in a narrow late-year window. Wedding stationery is the one category where ordering a single sample before the full run is genuinely worth the extra step.
Getting the Print Quality Right
Photo products are unusual in that the retailer controls the printing and you control the input, so most disappointing results trace back to the file rather than the press.
Start from the original. An image that has been sent through a messaging app has usually been compressed hard, and no amount of upscaling recovers what was discarded. Pull the file from the camera roll, the camera, or the original cloud backup instead.
Match resolution to finished size. The bigger the product, the more pixels it needs. A file that prints cleanly at 6x4 can look soft on a large canvas. Photobox warns on low-resolution uploads during the build, but the warning is advisory โ it will let the order through, so treat it as a stop signal rather than a note.
Proof the personalisation. Anything carrying a name, a date or a message is made to order and is not returnable for a change of mind, so a typo is a permanent one. Read it once on screen and once more at the confirmation step.
Watch the crop. Product templates crop to their own aspect ratio, and a portrait file dropped into a landscape frame will lose something. Check the preview rather than assuming the whole image survives.
When to Shop for the Best Photobox Deals
Late October to Christmas is the deepest and longest promotional run of the year, and it is when the largest percentage codes appear. It is also when the made-to-order model bites: Photobox publishes cut-off dates for Christmas delivery, and those deadlines arrive well before the discounting stops. Order to the deadline, not to the sale.
Mother's Day and Father's Day both drive gift-focused promotions, typically on the smaller personalised items and photo books rather than on wall art.
The spring wedding season brings activity on stationery and album formats from roughly February onwards, as couples order invitations ahead of a summer date.
Quieter months are still worth checking. Because the product is printed on demand rather than stocked, there is no natural clearance cycle โ promotional codes run through the year rather than clustering only at peaks, so a January or June order is not automatically a worse deal than an autumn one.
